Description

This matchbox from the Second World War was issued in Belgium by Union Allumetière N.V. in Brussels. It was sold in support of the collaboration organization Winterhulp Belgium, the official charity during the years of occupation. The matchbox features a striking blue print depicting Saint Martin on horseback, sharing his cloak with a beggar. On the reverse side, the text reads 'Verkocht ten bate van Winterhulp' ('Sold in aid of Winter Relief').This matchbox was presumably also issued in the Netherlands by Winterhulp Nederland, as several examples have been found among Dutch Winterhulp collections. We have a limited number in stock, and the price is for one matchbox only.Article number:16937
