Description

You are bidding on a SUPERB used example of WW2 German Wehrmacht Zielfernrohr Z.F. 1128 Gun Scope, as used on various Assault Guns and Tank Destroyers! This SPECIFIC type was used on the remote MG34/42 mount for the Jagdpanzer 38 'Hetzer' and StuG IIIG/ StuG IV!In 1943, the German Army began equipping tank destroyers and assault guns with a Remote Controlled indirect-laying and indirect-aiming device, so that the crew would have an improved defense against close infantry attacks without exposing themselves. The remote usually consisted of a standard light machine gun (MG 34), mounted on a hollow-column base, on top of the armored fighting compartment. Controls are fitted so that the gunner can aim, elevate, and traverse the gun from his seat inside the vehicle. The gun's shield is designed that a standard 50-round drum may be attached to the left side.Although the older type of superstructure mounted MG's offered some protection by utilizing a folding shield which faces forward, it only permitted forward fire, and must be operated by a man standing with his head and shoulders exposed above an open hatch. This new remote mount differed as it was designed to give protection against attack from sides and rear, without placing the operator in harm's way.Having a magnification of 3Γ—8Β°, this was the MG gunners main aiming scope for the remote optics. It was used in conjunction with the 7.92 MG34/42.Made of aluminum and steel by Carl Zeiss, this MG aiming scope was manufactured between 1943 and 1945. It retains MUCH of the original paint and is in UNTOUCHED condition! It is 100% FUNCTIONAL, but due to the age, the optics are a bit hazy. I have restored one of these previously, and they are easy to clean…so it should not be an issue for the winning bidder to rectify. All of the haziness is from the lower mirror, which is dirty/worn. It retains the ORIGINAL outerDunkelgelb (RAL7028)camouflage paint, as well as the innerCremeweiß (RAL 9001), indicating it was pulled from a wartime vehicle, as opposed to being a spare part. No major corrosion and it still retains the original manufacture code and label, indicating, 'fll' (late-war Zeiss code). It is missing the rubber eye cup, but that is an easy replacement, as it uses the same one that is fitted to the MGZ Optics. Sadly, part of the clamp that attaches the lower mirror assembly to the optics is missing (see photos). It is made of steel, so it should be easy to fabricate a replacement part. I have shown its location in the last photos. A VERY RARE scope that would make a PERFECT addition to any collection or display!
