A very scarce original pre 1959 period 'Royal Naval Lay Readers Society RNLRS uniform pin badge'; large chromium plated example bearing Nautical Crown over white enamel cross with central fouled anchor on blue enamel ground, within white enamel title surround; the reverse impressed with maker's details 'TOYE KENNING & SPENCER BIRMINGHAM'. Very good condition, complete with original pin fittings, no defects to the enamel.Height approx 52mm.In 1930: The society was renamed the Royal Naval Lay Readers Society (RNLRS).In 1959: The RNLRS transitioned to a voluntary association. Lay Readers were no longer employed directly by the Royal Navy and ceased wearing a uniform.
