WWII Italian Naval Officer Sword with Etched Blade

The sword has an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 36 inches, with a blade length of approximately 29-3/4 inches. The blade has a matte appearance, with a film of old oil and grime. Both sides of the blade bear etched decorations for approximately half the length of the blade. The blade shows a few barely perceptible nicks on the edge. The painted wood grip shows some minor scuffs. The grip remains tightly wrapped with twisted brass wire. The rear of the guard folds down and locks onto the scabbard throat. The guard and the pommel retain much of the original gilt finish with uncleaned patina. The underside of the guard is stamped with a number '6' (or '9'). The leather scabbard shows age and scuffs but it is intact, with the scabbard fittings showing having a dark patina over the gilt finish.
