Named Posthumous WWII Canadian Memorial Cross on a Royal Canadian Air Force Wing

Available
$350.00

Description

The Canadian Memorial Cross is named to Flight Officer R. J. Sanders, J41172. The Cross is marked as 'Sterling' with a maker mark. The cross is suspended from a sterling Royal Canadian Air Force Wing, approximately 2 inches wide. The wing has a pin back fastener, and it is attached by a chain to a small suspension pin. The set is contained within its presentation case which bears a crown on the exterior lid, and which has the date of 'Dec. 3' written on the lining of the lid, this being the date of Sander's death in a plane crash in 1944 while serving with #18 Service Flying Training School in Manitoba. Both the wing and the Memorial Cross have a deep, uncleaned patina and the set is in excellent condition. The set is accompanied by several pages of research on Sanders, his service and his death.
