Late 18th Century Kingdom of Saxony Spontoon Bayonet

7 5/8 inches by 1 3/8 inches. The spontoon head is comprised of a leaf shaped blade with a raised crowned 'AR' cypher for 'Augustus Rex', Augustus having been Elector of Saxony and King of Poland. The spontoon head has a turned base and cross guard on a 3 1/2 inch socket which is cut for placement over the end of a barrel. The steel has grayed and it shows some areas of dark staining and surface roughness.
