1885 Dated Imperial German Kriegsmarine Officer Ivory Grip Sword

The sword has an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 36-1/2 inches, with a blade length of approximately 30 inches. The blade is etched with decorative floral designs, a fouled anchor,and a sailing ship on both sides of the blade. The blade shows spots and verdigris as well as surface grim but overall the blade is generally clean. The spine bears the mark of a crown over the royal 'W' cypher above the date of '85'. The ivory grip is without chips or cracks. The grip remains triple wrapped with brass wire, two strands of which are loose. The reverse guard is a folding design, and the interior surface of this portion of the guard, as well as the scabbard throat, are both marked 'II M D 14'. The entire pommel and guard show a dark and uncleaned patina. The brass components of the scabbard also show a dark and uncleaned patina. The leather scabbard shows age, being somewhat dry and with surface scuffs, but the scabbard is complete and intact, Overall very good condition.
