British 1821 Pattern Light Cavalry Officer Sword, Identified

Original era manufacture. British 1821 pattern Light Cavalry Sword identified to Edward Leyborne Popham, who served with King George's Own 26th Indian Light Cavalry, and was awarded the DSO in 1917.Standard pattern sword, with a beautiful etched blade with Queen Victoria's crown on each side. On the ricasso are his initials, ELP in a flowing script, and a brass disc below marked 'proved'. The blade measures nearly 36 inches in length, in original polish and runs straight and true.Three branch steel guard and pommel, with a fishskin covered grip bound with triple strand copper wire. The guard and scabbard show evidence of cleaned corrosion pitting, but now present a bright steel finish. One of the scabbard throat cover retaining screws is missing.Accompanying the sword is a sales receipt from a UK auction house where the sword sold in September of last year, and several pages of research regarding Popham including a photograph of his tombstone.
