Italian Fascist Embroidered Silk Flag with Streamers

An Italian national flag in silk on which the central panel has been heavily embroidered in bullion with the fasces emblem of the Italian Fascist Party. The silk streamers, also in the Italian national colors of red, white and green, are embroidered in bullion with the designation 'National Fascist Party Session of Naro' (Naro is a commune on the island of Sicily, so the flag was apparently created for, and used at, a gathering of members of the Fascist Party that was held in Naro). The flag is approximately 26 by 46 inches in size, exclusive of the gold bullion fringe. The streamers are approximately 46 inches long. The flag unfortunately has a number of separations in the silk field. These openings are not surprising because the flag was heavily embroidered in the center of both sides with the fasces emblem, and this undoubtedly placed considerable weight on the remaining silk field of the flag. Nevertheless the flag remains impressive, and it is simply in need of some careful conservation.
