Model 1881 U.S. Army Indian Scouts Dress Helmet

An impressive example of the Model 1881 U.S. Army dress helmet for a member of the Indian Scouts. The pressed wool helmet is quite clean with simply some minor cracks in the patent leather trim. The leather chin strap is in place. The helmet has the Indian Scouts front plate and side buttons, the red and white horsehair plume, and the full set of red and white dress shoulder cords. The interior shows minimal wear and the underside of the leather sweatband is manufacturer marked by Horstmann of Philadelphia for Ridabock of New York.
