Rare 1812 Regiment of Rifleman Cap Plate

Plate measures 5 X 6 1/4″, in excavated condition the pieces backed with netting. Pictured in 'American Military Insignia 1800-1851 by J. Duncan Campbell and Edgar M. Howell by the Smithsonian Institution in 1963 as figure 22. This plate was excavated in the interior of one of the barracks comprising Smith's Cantonment at Sacketts Harbor, New York, where rifleman where rifleman were stationed as early as August 1812.
