Edo Period Brass Mounted Wakizashi Short Sword

Available
$950.00

Description

An Edo period (1603 to 1867) wakizashi with brass grip and scabbrd, both ornately decorated with applied relief images. The overall length of the wakizashi is approximately 20 1/2 inches in the scabbard, with a blade length of 12 inches. The blade is generally bright and, while it has a few small inclusions, it is without nicks, chips, or active rust. The decorated scabbard has two kanji that appear, like the other decorations, in raised relief. These kanji are written in an ancient 'seal script' which can be quite difficult to read. The second kanji is definitely 'crane', while the first appears to be 'voice', making the kanji the term 'Voice of the Crane'. The scabbard is missing one of its applied birds. Overall very good condition.
