Circa 1830 Widmann-Horstmann Marine Corps Eagle Head Sword

Available
$1475.00 β€”

Description

The sword has an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 32 inches, with a blade length of approximately 27 inches. The blade is dark, with an uncleaned patina and with etched designs still visible on the upper thirds of each side of the blade. Faint traces of gilt remain on the etched decorations. The blade has a few small nicks on the cutting edge. The brass guard, knuckle box, grip and stylized eagle head pommel all bear a fine old uncleaned patina. The underside of the guard bears the Horstmann name. The leather scabbard is somewhat dry and it has shrunken a bit with age, with the brass drag at the base of the scabbard being detached but present.
