1906 Ames Experimental U.S. Army Cavalry Sword

The sword has an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 37 inches, with a blade length of approximately 29-1/2 inches. The blade shows spots of plating loss, as well as surface grime and verdigris. The ricasso is marked 'U.S.' on one side, with the opposite side bearing the designation of 'A.S. Co.' above the ordnance mark, below which is the date of 1906. The ray skin covered grip shows a vertical separation down its interior length, with the grip being securely wrapped in brass wire. The guard is blackened and exhibits chips. The leather cover of the scabbard shows age and scuffing but it is intact.
