Etched GAR Civil War Veteran Sword of Massachusetts 'Fletcher Webster Post 13' by Ames

The sword has an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 36-3/4 inches, with a blade length of approximately 30 inches. The blade bears the etched designation on one side of 'Post 13 GAR', while the opposite side bears the etched post name of 'Fletcher Webster'. The blade is generally bright, bearing etched decorative motifs in addition to the Post designation and name. The ricasso has the etched manufacturer name of the Ames Company. The grip is wrapped in pebbled shark skin with wire wrapping, with the grip having a crack on one side. The guard and pommel all exhibit a dark, uncleaned patina and verdigris. The plated scabbard has scattered spots of rust on both sides.
