French Ca 1850 Field Grade Officer, Garde Nationale Shako & Box

Original era manufacture. A very impressive piece of headgear, with a wide band of silver brocade at the crown, which we feel denotes a senior officer, Major to Colonel. The body of the shako is pressed cardboard, with a thin black fur covering. Silver washed copper chinscales and eagle plate, with a painted blue-white-red cockade at top with a removable blue/red pompom. Pressed leather visor is securely attached to the shako body, sound original liner.Included with the shako is the top portion of its original storage box, a unique item in and of itself. Overall the condition of the set is quite sound for its age, no issues. From our own collection.
