Description
Original era manufacture. Classic sword bayonet with a yataghan shaped blade, introduced for use with the breechloading Chassepot rifle in 1866. Brass grip with a steel guard and a new 23 inch polished steel blade. The blade is very clean, just some minor grime needing to be cleaned away. Interestingly there are no arsenal markings or date on the spine, possibly a contract bayonet, perhaps for Egypt, as it fits pretty well on our Tel El-Kebir captured Remington Rolling Block rifle. Relatively dent-free scabbard with a steel patina finish. A common enough bayonet, but really massive, one of my favorite bayonets.
