Named Decorated German Navy Haversack Bread Bag

A World War I German Navy haversack or bread bag which was decoratively painted by the sailor or marine who carried the bag. The decorations include nautical motifs of anchors and life preservers as well as the German war flag. The interior of the bag is depot marked and has the cloth name tag of the owner sewn to the interior.
