Description
The katana is mounted in the late war variation fittings for the swords of Imperial Army officers. The sword has an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 39 inches, with a blade length of approximately 25-1/2 inches. The blade is somewhat cloudy in appearance as a result of surface dirt and typical spots are present, but the blade has a visible temper line and it is without nicks, chips or active rust. The grip has a tight weave of golden brown tape, which shows a just a bit of wear and fraying. The grip lacks the usual decorative menuki of three cherry blossoms. The late war pommel and the tsuba guard are plain and black in style. The tang has two mounting holes and it is signed 'Muneyoshi'. The steel scabbard exhibits wear to the exterior brown paint, with the paint being approximately sixty percent intact. Overall very good condition.
