Meiji Period Japanese Kyu Gunto Sword with Family Mons Crest

The sword has an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 37 inches, with a blade length of approximately 27 inches. The blade shows spots and areas of pitting towards the tip, but it is without nicks, chips or active rust. The tang exhibits surface rust and it is unsigned. The grip is covered in sharkskin, tightly triple wrapped with brass wire. The hilt assembly exhibits a dark and uncleaned patina. The back strap of the hilt bears a silver mons family crest. The scabbard has areas of finish loss, but the scabbard is complete and intact. Overall very good condition.
