Edo Period Japanese Katana

The sword has an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 39 inches, with a blade length of approximately 24-1/2 inches. The blade is generally bright, showing some scratches and inclusions. The blade has a few tiny and barely visible nicks. The ray skin covered grip is wrapped in the traditional fashion with black oil-cloth type fabric. Each side of the grip has a gilt menuki, The tsuba guard is a pierced style, with the sword having a decorated ferrule and pommel. The textured wooden scabbard has a seam split, showing chips and age and missing its throat, but the scabbard is intact.
