Japanese Jumyo Tanto Late Edo Period With NBTHK Certificate

With Hozon Token certificate attributing this sword to the shinshinto Jumyo group The tanto has an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 17 inches, with a blade length of approximately 10-3/4 inches. The blade is generally bright, with a visible and distinct temper line. The grip is wrapped in black fabric over sharkskin, with ornamental iron mountings. The guard, ferrule, and pommel all have relief gilt ornamentation, as do the scabbard fittings. The scabbard itself has a textured black decorative design with losses to the edge. The tang has a single mounting hole. Overall very good to excellent condition.
