WW1 1914 Star trioTo- 539.PTE.W.McCOMBE.S.IRISH.HORSE (Star)& 2-LIEUT.W.McCOMBE (Pair)William Joseph Pogue McCombe from Belfast first landed in France 17-8-1914 serving with the South Irish Horse. He was commissioned in to the 10th service battalion of the Notts & Derby regiment 19-7-1915 & sadly was killed in action in France & Flanders 23-4-1917. He was no known grave & as such he is commemorated on the Arras memorial.His father applied for the issue of his campaign medals in 1919 whilst living at Granview, Monkstown, Whiteabbey, Belfast.GVF or better & a scarce trio as only one squadron of the South Irish Horse arrived in France in time to qualify for the 1914 trio.Complete with copy officers service papers, MIC details & CWGC details.
