WW1 Prussian Army S98/05 mS Seitengewehr – SAWBACK BUTCHER BAYONET – VERY NICE!

You are bidding on an EXCELLENT used example of a WW1 PrussianS98/05 mS (n.A.) Seitengewehr SawbackBayonet! Primarily issued to Pioneers, MG Detachments, and Specialized Troops, it comes complete with the original leather scabbard!The Sawback Butcher Bayonet was designated as the S98/05 S or m.S. (mit Säge – with saw). During WW1, the Sawback got the reputation for being an extremely dangerous weapon that could cause severe injury. Through an allied propaganda campaign designed to make the blade seem inhumane, the Germans decided to remove the saw teeth and suspended production in 1917. Many examples found today had the teeth ground off, as soldiers that were captured with a Sawback bayonet, were often harshly treated (and this alone gave g ood reason to grind the teeth off).Made of steel, this Second Pattern Prussian S98/05 mS (n.A.)Sawback Bayonet is in VERY NICE condition considering its age. Manufactured byWaffenfabrik Mauser A.G. Oberndorf, there are some slight marks due to the age, but otherwise is in SUPERB used condition! The blade does show some marks, stains, and has been sharpened slightly. Features numerous inspection stamps, and a production date of 1916. Also features a Prussian acceptance mark on the pommel. The scabbard is original to this knife, and matches in condition, with various marks and wear throughout.Would make a SUPERB addition to any collection or display!
