WW1 German MG08 Maxim Machine Gun Cover 1918

Rare WW1 German MG08 Maxim machine gun barrel cover in green nettlecloth material. Maker marked & dated to bottom end 1918.Used to protect the gun from the mud of the trenches these rarely turn up & were a vital part of the Mg Gunners equipment.Having survived in very good condition with long fastening strap intact it has reinforced area to interior protecting the maxims mechanism.This barrel cover comes from a very old European collection having been picked up from the battlefield & acquired by local collector some time later until now.
