Imperial Baden Etched Blade Civil Service Sword by Horster

The sword is approximately 37 inches long. The ricasso bears the maker mark of 'F.H.', reflecting production by the firm of Friedrich Horster. The blade has an etched design on both sides from approximately one third of the length of the blade. The ricasso area on each side retains some of the gilt finish. The blade is generally dark, showing patina and scattered spots of rust. The black grip plates exhibit scratches but they are without damage. The fixed clamshell guard bears the crest of Baden. The guard, the knuckle bow, the pommel and the back strap retain a darkly toned gilt finish, with spots and verdigris. There is no scabbard.
