Description
You are bidding on a SUPERB example of a 100% ORIGINAL WW2 German Kriegsmarine 'Kapuzenhaube' (Foul Weather Hood), as issued to naval and coastal artillery personnel! This late-war model was part of the foul-weather gear designed for shipboard use and protection against wind, rain, and sea spray. Worn aboard destroyers, U-boats, and other surface craft, as well as by shore-based artillery and port defense crews.During the early years of the war, the Kriegsmarine issued heavy, padded leather hoods as part of its foul-weather equipment. However, by 1943 shortages of leather and other materials led to the introduction of simplified, lightweight versions. These were made from black or dark brown leather; Erstaz Leather; or Rrubberized Cotton Fabric, with a lighter cotton or linen lining. They retained the same general shape as the early models, with a front visor, neck flap, and chin strap, but were more flexible and easier to produce. The late-war models were commonly marked with an RBN number in place of the earlier manufacturer stamps.Constructed of supple black leather (possibly Ersatz Leather) with a grey cotton interior lining, this Kreigsmarine Foul Weather cap is in AMAZING used condition! Representing the lighter late-war variant of the heavy, padded foul-weather hood. It features the distinctive reinforced front peak, twin button chin strap, and ventilation grommets at the sides. Late-war examples like this one often exhibit simplified venting and construction as material shortages increased toward the end of the conflict. The RBNr. and size markings remain clearly visible on the inside, indicating a production date of '1944', as well as a size '55'. Features light service wear, however, the leather is still VERY soft and pliable, with all stitching intact. A SCARCE late-war variation, PERFECT for any collection or display!
