Description
You are bidding on a VERY NICE example of a 100% ORIGINAL WW2 German Wehrmacht 'Splittertarnmuster' (Splinter Pattern A) Camouflage Reversible Hood! Produced during the mid-war period, this was issued primarily to Heer ground troops between 1942 and 1944.After the first devastating winter of 1941-1942 on the Russian front, the German army found that it was drastically under equipped with cold weather garments. As such, a wide variety of improvised garments including a broad assortment of donated civilian garments were utilized as a temporary solution. In the spring of 1942, the Wehrmacht, began testing heavier winter clothing to develop suitable garments for the Russian front. In April 1942, the first models were issued in the autumn of that year, in the reversible blue/mouse grey/white colorations, which was modified to camouflage pattern/white combinations in 1943. Included with these new garments were heavy, padded, reversible winter suits which consisted of a parka, pants, mittens and hoods. This Splittertarnmuster pattern features distinctive angular green and brown polygonal fields over a light tan base, with characteristic vertical 'rain' streaks for added depth and concealment. It provided excellent effectiveness in European woodland and urban environments. The reverse side is white for winter operations.Made of water-resistant cotton/rayon, this reversible hood remains in NICE used condition. It features the correct Splinter camouflage pattern on one side, reversible to white on the other. All ties are still present, and the lower panels are intact. There is some evident field wear, including small repairs, light stains, and minor discoloration from service use, but it remains completely solid and displays beautifully. Appears to be a size 59, along with a manufacture stamp (though heavily faded). Would make a VERY NICE addition to any collection or display!
