WW2 German Wehrmacht Kopfhaube – REVERSIBLE CAMOUFLAGE HOOD – SUMPFTARNMUSTER 43

You are bidding on an EXCELLENT example of a 100% ORIGINAL WW2 German Wehrmacht 'Sumpftarnmuster 43″ (Tan & Water) Camouflage Reversible Hood! Produced in 1943 this was issued to both Heer and Elite troops between 1943 and 1945After the first devastating winter of 1941-1942 on the Russian front, the German army found that it was drastically under equipped with cold weather garments. As such, a wide variety of improvised garments including a broad assortment of donated civilian garments were utilized as a temporary solution. In the spring of 1942, the Wehrmacht, began testing heavier winter clothing to develop suitable garments for the Russian front. In April 1942, the first models were issued in the autumn of that year, in the reversible blue/mouse grey/white colorations, which was modified to camouflage pattern/white combinations in 1943. Included with these new garments were heavy, padded, reversible winter suits which consisted of a parka, pants, mittens and hoods.ThisSumpftarnmuster 43design was introduced around mid-1943 for use by Heer and Waffen-SS ground forces, featuring soft brown and green blotches over a tan background with characteristic vertical 'rain' streaks, offering effective concealment in mixed woodland and marsh terrain. The reverse side is white for winter use.Made of water-resistant wool/rayon, this reversible hood is in SUPERB used condition! It features the standard Tan & Water (Sumpftarnmuster 43) camouflage coloring on one side, which is reversible to white on the other. It features the original tie string, which was designed to tie around the wearers neck (normally, these are missing), as well as four large panels at the bottom, that were designed to tuck under the jacket in order to retain the most warmth possible. Dated 1943, it is marked as a size 59, along with a manufacture stamp (though faded). As it was used in combat, there are some slight marks and stains. Would make a SUPERB addition to any collection or display!
