Description
You are bidding on a SUPERB used example of a 1950s Swiss Mathey-Tissot Type 12 Aircraft Clock! Based on the WW2 German Luftwaffe Junghans Cockpit Chronograph, this was one of the last mechanical examples made, before switching to battery-powered clocks.Swiss maker Mathey-Tissot produced the Type 12 aircraft panel clock to military specifications in the late 1930sβ1950s for various European air arms (most notably French service, later adopted by NATO). Based on the earlier WW2 German Junghans Cockpit CLock, it was built as a 35β40-hour, hand-wound chronograph with a 12-hour dial, luminous markers, and a robust alloy case, it was designed for reliable timekeeping under vibration, temperature extremes, and low-light conditions. Features include hacking seconds, chronograph with flyback function, adjustable bezel, and 15-minute timer. The movement is the Valjoux 555, 17 jewels, with a single mainspring barrel providing one day of power. The left-hand pusher controls the flyback chronograph (start-stop-reset), while the right-hand knob sets and winds the clock.Made of aluminum and steel, this Mathey-Tissot Type 12 Chronograph Clock is in AMAZING used condition! It retains 98% of its original paint and finish, and features the screw on back.Circa 195s, there are some light marks and scratches throughout from age, but nothing that detracts. The dial still glows at night (must be charged with UV light) and, 'Mathey Tissot β Type 12' is prominent on the dial. 100% FUNCTIONAL, and keeps accurate time! Appears to have a service date of 1973 stamped into the back. One of the BEST examples I have seen of its type, it would make a FANTASTIC addition to any collection, panel rebuild, or restoration project!
