The bayonet was modified from a longer Weimar era bayonet. The blade is generally bright, with some spots and scratches. The blade bears the maker mark of P.D. Luneschloss. Both the guard and the scabbard throat bear the unit marking of 'S.D. IV. 580.'. indicating that the bayonet was item number 580 in the property inventory of within command section IV of the Dusseldorf district. Both the guard and the pommel excellent detail and uncleaned patina. The grip plates have a fine golden tone, without chips or cracks and having no extra mounting holes as are sometime seen on the Weimar bayonets that were modified in the Third Reich. The obverse side grip plate bears an aluminum police eagle which shows typical wear. The black leather scabbard is in very good polish and it is complete and intact. The fittings have an uncleaned patina. The bayonet is mounted in a brown leather frog which has age but which is, like the bayonet itself, in very good condition.
