US WWI Victory Medal, Silver Star

Original era manufacture. Standard style Victory medal with three campaign bars, Aisne-Marne, Oise-Aisne and Defensive Sector. Of greater interest is the small silver star affixed to the ribbon above the bars. This indicates the recipient was awarded a Citation Star which was established in 1918. In 1932 upon the inception of the Silver Star medal, soldiers awarded the Citation Star were entitled to the new decoration. The ribbon is worn and frayed, however this tiny silver star places this Victory Medal a cut above its fellows.
