Description

A scarce original First World War period 'H.M.S. King Edward VII pin brooch', in the form of a hollow silver torpedo with cut out applied title scroll, the reverse impressed with Chester silver hallmarks for 1915 and maker's details 'F.H.M' ((Frank H Mannox Birmingham.). Very good mint condition, complete with original pin fitting.Length approx 57mm.HMS King Edward VII, named after King Edward VII, was the lead ship of her class of pre-dreadnought battleships. On the 6 January 1916 while steaming to Belfast for a refit she struck a naval mine that had been laid by the German auxiliary cruiser SMS Möwe. Attempts to tow King Edward VII to port failed when she took on a dangerous list she was abandoned and her crew evacuated to several destroyers. King Edward VII sank later that day.
