Description

You are bidding on a GOOD example of a WW2 US Army Air Force Bendix Loop Antenna, as used in conjunction with the MN-13 Direction Finder! This was used on the B-17 Flying Fortress, B-24 Liberator, B-25 Mitchell, C-47 Skytrain and others! The Bendix MN-20 series is the rotatable radio-direction-finding (RDF) loop used with wartime radio compass sets (e.g., MN-26/RA-10) on many USAAF bombers and transports, including B-17, B-24, B-25, C-47 and others. Period documentation and surviving examples (most commonly MN-20E) show the same open loop form fitted in dorsal fairings or exposed on airframes; the 'D' is a less frequently encountered production variant within that family.Made of aluminum and steel, this Bendix Loop Antenna is in VERY NICE displayable condition. Probably removed from a wreck, the loop is bent with a crack at the top (period tape over the crack), and the entire unit was repainted post-service in standard Army green, obscuring most factory finish/markings. Mounting hardware and wiring stubs remain as shown. Sold strictly as an unrestored display piece; no functionality implied. Marked, 'MN-20D', which is a scarcer variant of the classic USAAF radio-compass loop used on wartime bombers and transports. Ihave indicated its location in the last photos.A PERFECTaddition to any collection, display, or restoration project!
