GVR 1st type WW1 Military Medal (MM) & PairTo- 220097.PTE.W.RYRIE.6/CAM'N.HIGHRS (MM)& 202783.PTE.W.RYRIE.A&S.HIGHRSWilliam Ryrie from Lennoxtown was employed by the North British Railway as a clerk at the Lennoxtown depot prior to enlisting in 1917. He initially served overseas with the 5th battalion of the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders but went on to serve with the 6th battalion of the Cameron Highlanders. He was awarded the MM was published in the London gazette 25-4-1918 & was an award for a trench raid whilst serving with A company at Monchy-Le-Preux east of Arras 11-3-1918. He was sadly killed in action in France & Flanders 25-7-1918. He has no known grave but is commemorated on the Soissons memorial. The CWGC state that he was the late 22 year old brother of John Ryrie of Glorat Lodge, Milton, Campsie, Glasgow & SDGW states that he was both born, enlisted & lived in Lennoxtown.NEF/GVF & Complete with London gazette details, MIC details & details from both SDGW & the CWGC
