National Union of Teachers Sidcup Association 1936 Silver Gilt President Badge

A rare original circa 1936 period 'National Union of Teachers President Enamel Neck badge'; very large exceedingly heavy ornate enamel oval bearing Latin motto 'Fac et Spera' (Do and hope), mounted by a 'Lamp of Knowledge' with 'President' scroll above and ribbon scroll below 'SIDCUP ASSOCIATION' the applied central device depicting two figures supporting a shield with 'NTU' to the centre, the reverse impressed with Birmingham Silver hallmarks for 1936 and maker's details 'JRG&S' (J R Gaunt & Son). Very good condition, complete with original suspension loop, no stress marks or enamel loss and housed in an associated velvet lined leather case.Height with loop approx 106mm.
