Description
WWII German Army Early Tunic for Engineer Officer-This is for a captain who was an engineer (pionier). It is a very early example in extremely soft, field grey wool that is excellent. It is extremely clean and damage free. There are four pockets with scalloped flaps. The breast pockets are pleated while the hip pockets are internal. There is an eight button closure (top one present but popped off) and all buttons are silver finished pebbled metal. The dark green Badge cloth collar has very minor wear only. The collar tabs are matte gray bullion with black litzen. The shoulder boards are the sew in type with a silver flat wire face over a black badge cloth underlay. Each has a pair of gold finish metal pips indicating the rank of Captain. The breast eagle is bright silver bullion with bright silver highlights over dark green badge cloth. It is neatly hand applied. There are loops for two sets of badges on the left side. One is on the pocket and the other is just below. There is also a set of loops for a medium sized ribbon bar, one of which is included. The interior is partially lined and gray ribbed rayon. There is a white elasticized waist belt with a plated metal buckle. At one time there was a tailor tag in the neck area, but this is gone. The tunic is a size medium. Overall excellent condition!
