Description
The obverse side of the blade shows spots, surface grime, and typical runner marks, but with visible cross grain being evident. There is dark and intact burnishing of the motto with very good contrast against the blade. There are a few small dark blemishes on the blade surface, primarily just below the 'A' in the motto of 'Alles fur Deutschland'. The reverse ricasso bears the scarce maker mark of the firm of Neidhardt & Schmidt of Brotterode. The maker mark is quite faint on the blade, with the entire reverse blade surface showing the signs of burnishing, with this process having left the maker mark intact, but somewhat indistinct. The wooden grip has a very well detailed nickel political eagle inset into the grip. At the top of the grip is the enamel SA runes button which is without damage. The grip itself shows typical scratches and indentations from carrying wear, but it is without chips or cracks and it fits the guards very well. The guards show a fine and uncleaned patina, with the plating of the guards being largely intact. The reverse of the lower guard bears the 'BO' mark of SA Group Bayerische Ostmark. The dagger is tight within the scabbard. The black scabbard shows only minor wear to the anodized finish, but the finish is for the most part complete and intact. The scabbard fittings, like the guards, have a fine and uncleaned patina. The brown leather dagger hanger is supple, with the nickel plated belt clip also having an uncleaned patina. Overall the dagger is in very good condition.
