WW1 1914-15 TrioTo- 14647.PTE.R.McGIFFEN.BORD.RRobert McGiffen was born in Felling, Lived in Bensham & enlisted in Gateshead. He was serving with the 2nd battalion of the Border Regiment when he was first wounded in France 14-9-1915 & was shipped back to the UK to recover. He rejoined his battalion in France 1-1-1916 & was mortally wounded in the first day of the battle of the Somme 1-7-1916. Due to gun shot wounds to his thigh & lower leg. He sadly died of his wounds 3-7-1916 & is buried in Abberville communal cemetery. His two older brothers James & Joseph were both also KIA in WW1.GVF or better & complete with MIC details, CWGC, details & SDGW details.
