GVR 1st TYPE WW1 MILITARY MEDAL, 1st ROYAL IRISH RIFLES, K.I.A F&F 16-8-1917, FROM BELFAST

GVR 1st type WW1 Military Medal (MM)To- 9672.PTE.P.SHEILDS.1/R.IR.RIFPatrick Shields was both born & enlisted in Belfast & first landed in France 6-11-1914 serving with the 1st battalion of the Royal Irish Rifles. He was awarded the MM for services in France in the London gazette 6-1-1917 & was sadly killed in action in France & Flanders 16-8-1917 & sadly having no known grave he is commemorated on the Tyne Cot memorial.
