A heavy silver German Air Force WW1 mess serving dish with lid, with an engraved tribute to German fighter ace Max Immelmann. 26cm wide dish with ornate handle. Engraved with two Iron Cross representations dated 1914. Engraved legend pays tribute to the renowned pilot. Base is maker marked by Jon Wagner & Sohn and stamped Feinsilber Alpaka Auflage. Immelmann flew a Fokker E1 single seat fighter in France under the 6th Army Flying Corps. He was awarded the Order Pour la Merite after downing 15 enemy aircraft. He was killed in June 1916 when his plane broke up.
