Originally a high end luxury Pocker Watch, this was requisitioned and officially accepted into Navy service during the war!During the Second World War, the German Kriegsmarine relied heavily on high-precision Swiss timepieces, and Ulysse Nardin was among the most respected manufacturers used for naval service. When the Navy required reliable pocket watches for bridge duty, navigation support, signal timing, engine room intervals, and general officer or NCO issue, they frequently requisitioned quality civilian Swiss watches and entered them into the naval inventory system. These watches were then graded into classes (I.Kl., II.Kl., III.Kl.) based on accuracy and intended use, with Nardin watches often ranking among the higher-grade categories due to their exceptional movements and build quality. This practice was common across the fleet, from U-boats and destroyers to coastal battery commands, making Swiss-made naval-accepted watches an important part of Kriegsmarine equipment.Made with a.800 Sterling Silvercase, this Ulysse Nardin pocket watch is inSUPERBused condition! The reverse bears the fully wartime naval acceptance marking'M 3897 II.Kl.', indicating Kriegsmarine property, inventory number 3897, andSecond Class grading (Zweite Klasse) βa classification typically issued for bridge duty, engine room timing, signal intervals, and general watch officer use. All military markings are sharp, deeply stamped, and unquestionably period. The dial is clean and completely original, with the properU. Nardin Locle & GenΓ¨vesignature, bold numerals, and the correct sub-seconds register. It is free from restoration, repainting, or repair. Hands are original and correctly matched to the dial. The crystal shows light surface wear consistent with age, but no cracks or major damage. Hinges are tight, and both lids open and close properly with the correct tension. The movement is the original high-grade gilt Ulysse Nardin mechanism with jeweled settings, correct wartime bridge layout, and no postwar modifications.
