WW1 German Jager Zu Pferde Other Rank Helmet - 1916

A nice example of the wartime ersatz pattern lobster tail helmet 'Metalhelme' of the Jager-zu-Pferde. Has grey painted steel ersatz fittings and made by 'Helbing and Sackewitz' in 1916.Retains much of the original black painted finish over the raw steel body. The ersatz gray painted spike base and detachable spike. Unfortunately the base plate missing two of the retaining studs. Correct ersatz gret dragon style helmet plate with upswept eagle wings. Has a state and national cockade to either side. The Leather chinstrap is a replacement.The inside retaining the lesther liner band only and missing the liner pads. Maker marked on the inside of the shell and unit marked on the back lobster tail edge ' 57 7 JzP 1916 Ers Esk. 1'.A good and impressive wartime helemt.
