Description
The standard issue Japanese Army officer's sword of the Showa period. It has an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 1005mm with a blade length of approximately 690mm. The sword blade is in a nice bright clean condition with a couple of small edge knocks. It would certainly benefit from a professional clean. The hamon line not visible. The tang shows some relatively minimal surface rust and it has a single mounting hole. The tang bears a signature. The ray skin grip is wrapped in the original brown fabric, with the wrap showing good age wear from handling. Beneath the wrapping are the standard military menuki of three cherry blossoms. The tsuba guard is the voidedstyle, with relief cherry blossoms and with matching spacers. The pommel with a small silver mon. The all metal standard army Showa period dark brown painted scabbard paint exhibits some age and wear but retains some of the original finish with heavy tone and light surface corrosion. Complete with an original army officers sword tassel. Overall a fair and untouched example of what is to expected as found direct from a veteran family.
