You are bidding on an EXCELLENT example of a 100% ORIGINAL WW2 Imperial Japanese ArmyType 100 81mm High-Explosive Mortar Round! Manufactured for the Imperial Japanese Infantry, this is a completely INERT example that has been fully demilitarized and is safe for display.The Introduced in the early 1940s, the Type 100 81mm mortar was the standard medium mortar of the Imperial Japanese Army, replacing earlier 90mm and 70mm designs. It gave Japanese infantry companies a highly mobile indirect-fire weapon capable of engaging Allied positions out to roughly 3,000 meters. Type 100 mortars and their 81mm rounds saw extensive service on all major fronts of the Pacific War, including China, New Guinea, the Philippines, and the island campaigns against US and Commonwealth forces. Surviving complete, original rounds are scarce today, as most were destroyed or scrapped after 1945.Made of brass and steel with its original fin assembly and Type 100 nose fuze body, this INERT round retains a LARGE amount of its original wartime finish, including the correct black body, yellow HE identification band, and red-brown lacquer at the fuze shoulder. The fins are solid, with no repairs, no rewelds, and no modern restoration. Overall condition is VERY NICE for the age, with honest service wear, minor dings, and patina throughout, but NO cracks, NO active corrosion, and NO postwar repainting.
