Description
German WWII West Wall Defense Badge w/Packet-This is a gorgeous example of the west wall medal. It retains all of its original finish. It has tremendous details. The long portion of yellow and white ribbon is slightly aged but looks very good. This medal includes an original packet stamped with the name Carl Poellath, Schrobenhausen. This is excellent.History: The West Wall Medal was instituted by Adolf Hitler in August of 1939 to recognize military personnel, including civilian employees, who assisted in the planning, construction or defense of German fortifications on the western border. The Westwall, also known as theSiegfried Line, was a German defensive line built along Germany's western border during World War II. It stretched approximately 630 kilometers (390 miles) from Kleve, near the Dutch border, to Weil am Rhein, near the Swiss border. The line consisted of bunkers, trenches, and other obstacles like concrete 'dragon's teeth' and was designed to defend against Allied invasion through Europe. The original bestowal of the West Wall Medals ceased as of January 1941. In October of 1944, bestowal of the West Wall Medal was re-instituted as over 200,000 personnel were assigned to strengthen the German fortifications in anticipation of the western allies' break-through into Germany. The West Wall Medal was only issued in one class.
