Luftwaffe pilot Luft-Navigationskarte Yellow Night Oilcloth Map of Scandinavia, Central Europe and the Mediterranean 1940

This original Luftwaffe air navigation map is the night-use version, printed on yellow oilcloth and dating to 1940. Executed in Mercator projection, the map covers a vast operational area including Scandinavia, Central and Eastern Europe, the Baltic region, and extending south toward the Balkans and the Mediterranean. The yellow background was specifically chosen for night flying, providing strong contrast and excellent legibility under low-light cockpit conditions.The map is manufactured from oilcloth, a thick, water-resistant and partially waterproof material developed for aerial use. This construction allowed the map to withstand cold, humidity and condensation inside aircraft, while remaining flexible and durable during repeated folding and handling. Such maps were ideal for operational use in open or poorly heated cockpits where ordinary paper would quickly deteriorate.Marked with Luftwaffe eagles and clearly titled as a Luft-Navigationskarte, the map shows radio navigation beacons, broadcast transmitters, coastlines, altitude contours, major cities and administrative boundaries. Magnetic variation data for 1938 is printed on the map, and it is noted as issued by the General Staff of the Luftwaffe, consistent with wartime production in 1940.Condition is very good, with expected fold lines from period use. The colors remain strong and the printing is sharp throughout.
