Description

Solid Bronze Sign from the U.S.S. Ellis-USS Ellis (DD–154) was a Wickes-class destroyer in the United States Navy during World War II. She was reclassified AG-115 on 30 June 1945. She was named for Chief Yeoman George Henry Ellis. Ellis was launched on 30 November 1918 by William Cramp & Sons, Philadelphia, sponsored by Mrs. E. T. Stotesbury. The destroyer was commissioned on 7 June 1919. She had quite a history during WWII, check it out for yourself! Her fate was met in July of 1947 when she was sold for scrap. This is a solid brass sign from her bridge that says;'U.S.S. Ellis1 BELL AHEAD SLOW2 BELLS STOP3 BELLS ASTERN SLOW4 BELLS FULL SPEED'It measures 8' by 4' and has holes in the corner for mounting. Very interesting!
