WW1 1914-15 TrioTo- 2236.PTE.J.C.NEWMAN.2-LOND.RJohn Charles Newman lived in Wandsworth & enlisted in London. He first landed in France 6-1-1915 serving with the 2nd battalion of the London Regiment & was sadly killed in action in France & Flanders 1-7-1916 on the first day of the battle of the Somme. He was 23 years of age at the time of his death & is buried in Gommecourt British cemetery No-2 at Hebuterne. The CWGC state that he was the late son of Mr & Mrs E.C.Newman of 161 Elesnham street, Southfields, London.NEF & Complete with MIC details. Along with details from both SDGW & the CWGC.
