WWII USAAF 1st Lieutenant Uniform Grouping-This set is for a 1st lieutenant in the 15th Air Force. It is a private purchase set. The tunic is in fine condition and produced in a very soft tan cotton blend. There are four pockets with scalloped flaps. The breast pockets are pleated and the hip pockets are internal. There is a four button closure and all buttons are gilt finished in the military style. The shoulder straps have 1stlt metal bars. The lapels have the metal 'U.S.' ciphers along with the gold wings and silver propeller of the USAAF. The left sleeve have a fantastic, hand embroidered bullion 15thAir Force shoulder patch. It is simply spectacular. Above the left breast pocket is a pair of ribbon bars plus a set of sterling silver wings for a navigator. The ribbon bar has from top left to bottom right the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster (missing another cluster), the EAME bar with four Oak Leaf Clusters and then the American Defense medal on a separate bar. The interior is partially lined in gold rayon. The right side has a pocket with a tailor tag that reads Mart Schaffner & Marx, Chicago New York. Inside is another tag which is only partially visible. It is a size large. The trousers are produced in the same material. They are also in excellent condition. There are hip pockets with two rear pockets that have scalloped flaps. There is a zippered fly with a single button waist. The waist is a size 30 and the legs are 40' in length. Excellent overall!
